Short Term Internships

Short term component comprises of the internships being offered, through universities, to current students or students that have just graduated. These internships are for 2 to 6 months. MOUs were signed with 8 leading universities of Islamabad on 23rd December 2015 and the first batch comprising of 46 interns has joined the Senate on 1st February 2016. In the first batch, there are 26 female interns and 20 male interns. Almost all parts of the country are represented in these 46 interns.

Rs.12,000 per month stipend will be paid to each intern.

Eight universities that are currently part of this program are:

1.      Air University, Islamabad.

2.      International Islamic University, Islamabad.

3.      National Defence University, Islamabad.

4.      NUML, Islamabad.

5.      NUST, Islamabad.

6.      Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad.

7.      Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

8.      Riphah International University, Islamabad.

 

In the second batch, SZABIST and Bahria University Islamabad will also become part of the short term internships program.

The short term interns will primarily perform Senate Committees Support services. They will be attached with various Committees, learn their oversight functions and we hope they will make vital contributions. One intern will be deputed in each Senate Committee.

To give them even deeper understanding of Senate, interns will also work as Ushers in the House on rotation basis. Some interns may also be tasked the work of indexation/development of database of House Business under guidance of Joint Secretary (Legislation) and Deputy Secretary (Legislation), IT based initiatives in proceedings telecast, verbatim record / Hansard and record keeping and reports generation including daily and session journal / report.
