Leader of the House in Senate Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq has said that Pakistan is grateful to Iran for the help it has extended over the course of history and the concern it has shown towards Pakistan’s sacrifices against the menace of terrorism. He made these remarks while in a meeting with a six member Iranian Delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Kamal Kharazi, former Foreign Minister of Iran who called on him here at the Parliament House on Tuesday.
Raja Zafar-ul-Haq observed that both countries enjoy common border and common culture and have stood with one another throughout history. He said that visits like these give us the opportunity to sit together and negotiate on how to face and resolve the threats facing us.
Dr. Kamal Kharazi recalled his days when he visited Pakistan for the first time in December 1978 and cherished the warm reception he received everywhere he went. He remarked that Iran and Pakistan are two neighbouring brotherly countries and this reality cannot be undone, however, the enemies of both countries continue to pose hurdles in ways of smooth ties between Iran and Pakistan.
Both sides agreed that a stable Afghanistan is important to both the countries who have done the most for their Afghan brothers and sisters. Leader of the House in Senate said that Iran and Pakistan have taken responsibility of helping Afghanistan and have paid huge price for this.
Raja Zafar-ul-Haq stressed upon increased parliamentary exchanges between the two countries to further strengthen the religious and cultural similarities. Dr. Kharazi also called for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The Iranian delegation comprised of Iranian Ambassador H.E. Mahdi Honardoost, Head of Academic and Cultural Commission Mr. Mostafavi, Secretary Council Mr. Khorramshad, Mr. Faraji and Mr. Taheri. Senators Mushahidullah, Chaudhry Tanveer Khan, Javed Abbasi and Asad Junejo represented the Pakistani side.
