The Senate on Wednesday admitted an adjournment motion moved by Senator Sherry Rehman, Leader of the Opposition , to discuss the decision of the Civil Aviation Authority to operationalize new Islamabad International Airport on 20th April, 2018 despite the fact the project is under investigation of NAB for alleged corruption. She said that the cost of the project has escalated drastically and has crossed the figure of Rs. 100 billions from Rs. 37 billions.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Asif in a reply to the calling attention notice by Senator Samina Saeed said that the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui is legal as 20% quota is reserved for persons with non-diplomatic career. Senatro Samina Saeed contended that country is faced with difficult situation and relations with United States have witnessed ups and downs in the recent times. There was a need to appoint an experienced and career diplomat for the important position.
Bills pertaining to the ministeries of Human Rights, Establishment Division, National Health Services Regulations and Coordination were reffered to the respective standing committees.
Quarterly Report about the state of Pakistan’s economy was also laid in the House by Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affiars.
On the calling attention notice moved by Senator Hidayatullah Khan towards the low salaries of teachers working in basic education community schools and non-regulation of their services, Minister for Federal Education and professional training said that these teachers are not regular employees and they are given an honoraria for their services. The amount of honoraria has been increased upto Rs.8000. He said that it is a make-shift arrangement and the place and teacher is provided by the community.
The House also considered point of public importance raised by various senators.
