Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs in its meeting on Monday was given a detailed briefing by senior officials of Election Commission of Pakistan regarding arrangements for free and fair upcoming elections in Pakistan. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Sassui Palijo and was attended among others by Senators Sardar Azam Musakhel, Lt. Gen. (R) Abdul Qayyum, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Khanzada Khan, Taj Muhammad Afridi, Mir Muhammad Yousaf Badini, Sitara Ayaz, Faisal Javed, Samina Saeed, Kalsoom Parveen, Maula Bux Chandio, Keshoo Bai, Secretary Parliamentary Affairs, Additional Secretary ECP and other senior officials.

The Committee was given details of total registered voters in the country with 22 Million in Sindh, 2.2M in FATA, 4.1 M in Balochistan, 59.7M in Punjab and 15.2M in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Total polling stations in the country were told to be 85000.

The Committee raised concerns regarding use of standardized inks, training of staff, availability and security of ballot papers, use of technology to verify the voters and voting lists, alleged transfer of voters from their constituencies to others, issues in delimitation among other issues.

The matter will be taken up again for further insight in the next meeting. Consideration of The Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances), (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and briefing by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs regarding its role functions and budgetary allocations were deferred.
