Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources in its meeting on Wednesday was given detailed briefings on Khazana Band Dam, Bara Dam, and Chiniot Dam. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Shamim Afridi and was attended among others by Senators Mir Hasil Bizenjo, Sardar Azam Khan Musakhel, Usman Khan Kakar, Jehanzeb Jamaldini, Sabir Shah, Gianchand, Mir Muhammad Yousaf Badini, Secretary Water Resources, Chairman WAPDA and officials from the ministry.
The Committee was told that the site for Khazana Band Dam was changed from the initial site after the feasibility study and survey by engineers. The project of Bara Dam is still at the PC-II stage which awaits clearance and subsequent allocation and release of funds.
The Committee laid emphasis on prioritizing a small number of water projects for Balochistan and other areas and working on them in the first phase so that funds can be released and projects can be completed instead of starting a huge number of projects and getting done with none. The Committee was given assurance by WAPDA that WAPDA is not selective in carrying out projects and given the funds and administrative authority it is willing to complete all projects.
