Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh here at the Parliament House was attended among others by Senators Dr. Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi, Dilawar Khan, Dr. Asad Ashraf, Dr. Ashok Kumarm, Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, Kalsoom Parveen, Minister for National Health Services Aamir Mehmood Kayani, JS from ministry, CEO DRAP Dr. Sheikh Akhter Hussain, RO Council PMDC, DIG, SSP Operations Isb and other Senior Officials from Concerned Departments.

Committee unanimously passed “The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amendments) Bill” today; main objectives of the bill were to promote the Donation of human organs or tissues after accidental or brain death. Senator Attique Sheikh Chairman Standing committee stressed upon improving the Health Services in Islamabad.

The Committee also decided to call IGP Islamabad and Chief Commissioner Islamabad to the next meeting for further compliance on the matter of recent arrest of a fake doctor at PIMS.

During the briefing on the compliance regarding the registration of OTC to manufacturing firms committee was told that new policy guidelines are now enforced, and OTC is more energised to work efficiently.

Further consideration on the Question raised by the Senator Dilawar Khan regarding any proposal of the Government to get WHO certification for DRAP (Drugs Regularity Authority of Pakistan) in near future, CEO DRAP gave his presentation to the committee and said that Pakistan has now achieved the 3rd level of the Global Benchmarking and become the full member of WHO. Minister National Health Services Aamir Kayani, said now Pakistan can export the medicine to the world and soon will be recognised as an emerging stakeholder. Committee appreciated the efforts of Minister and his team and directed to counter the challenges to attain next level of WHO.

Point of public importance regarding the sub-standard and fake degree of doctors working in different government hospitals, Minister said, this matter is already under process  has assured the Committee that he will submit a comprehensive report in next committee meeting. This issue was raised by Senator Kalsoom Perveen in the House earlier.
