The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development was held on Thursday. Presided over by Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman; the meeting was attended by Senator Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Senator Moulvi Faiz Muhammad, Senator Shaheen Khalid Butt, Senator Dr. Shahzad Waseem and senior officers of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOP&HRD) along with all concerned.
While deliberating over the case of Mr. Zahir Hussain who was involved in a road accident that killed four people and is in custody of Saudi Arabian authorities since 2012, Senator Sassui Palijo was of the opinion that it was imperative that the government make all possible efforts for his release.
Senator Shaheen Khalid Butt said that all records need to be checked to see whether or not Mr. Hussain was at fault, such as being drunk or over speeding, when the accident occurred. If not then it is mandatory for the government to make all out efforts for his release.
Regarding the establishment of two schools and a poly technique institute in District Zhob, Senator Molvi Faiz Muhammad said that he recommended that these two schools be established, since he has served as Labour Minister and is aware of the needs of the people of that area. He asserted that there are numerous children of mine workers in the area who will benefit from this initiative.
While deliberating over the issue of degree verification of officers/officials of overseas Pakistanis Foundation the Committee recommended that a sub-committee be formed to work with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources to resolve this issue amicably.
