The Senate Secretariat, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, has evolved a mechanism to offer a week long placement to the research and library staff of the federal and provincial legislative Secretariats to provide them an opportunity to interact, observe working and share experiences for improving service delivery and enhancing research capacities.
In this regard, a brief introductory session was held at Parliament House which was presided over by Leader of the House in the Senate Senator Shibli Faraz.
Leader of the House, while welcoming the research and library staff of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provincial Assemblies said that Senate of Pakistan acknowledges the importance of establishing linkages between the Senate and all federating units, including the Provincial Assemblies.
He said that Senate Secretariat is having a well-established library and a more efficient research wing and their expertise can be utilized for training and capacity building of the relevant wings of the Provincial Assembly secretariats.
Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik said that this is a new model developed by the Senate. Secretary Senate said that the Senate Secretariat has arranged a short term course of officials, three each from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies—at the Senate’s Research and Library facility for a week-long placement and hands-on training during the current sitting of the Senate.
He informed that the exercise is being carried to provide better opportunities and benefit from each other’s experiences in the field of research and library services. He further informed the participants that need based approach is being adopted to identify areas for collaboration.
