Event Date: 2019-10-24

Acting Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla has said that Indo-Israeli nexus poses continuous threat to regional and global peace as both are involved in state-sponsored terrorism in occupied Kashmir and Palestine.  Acting Chairman Senate expressed these views in a meeting with Ahmed Jawad Rabei, Ambassador of Palestine here at Parliament House on Thursday.   He said that Parliament, Government and people of Pakistan have always expressed their unequivocal support for the people of Palestine.  “The people of Palestine and occupied Kashmir are struggling for their rights and the international community needs to use its influence to ensure safety and protection of the civilian population besides joining hands for lasting peace in the region”, Saleem Mandviwalla said.

Mandviwalla further said that Pakistan wants the international law, norms and values to be respected and the people of Kashmir and Palestine be given their rights.  He said that durable peace in the region is directly linked to peaceful resolution of the two long-standing issues.  He termed it unfortunate that India and Israel have set aside the international laws and have opted for force as means to press the voices for freedom.  He called upon UN and other global forums to realize their responsibilities and come forward for a peaceful resolution of the decades old issues of Kashmir and Palestine.

The Acting Chairman also expressed the desire to visit Palestine at a convenient date along with delegation to boost parliamentary cooperation and enhance economic linkages.   He said that parliamentary cooperation and political linkages are highly satisfactory.  However, there is a need to strengthen trade and economic links by providing opportunities to businessmen to interact and explore avenues of mutual collaboration.

He said that Pakistan favours resolution of all outstanding Arab-Israeli disputes.  He further observed that Pakistan supports establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous state of Palestine on the basis of internationally agreed parameters.

Mandviwalla emphasized the need for enhanced institutional linkages between Al-Quds parliament and Senate of Pakistan.  He said that a robust approach is required to highlight the plight of people of Palestine and occupied Kashmir more effectively at global level.

Palestinian Ambassador thanked Acting Chairman Senate for his remarks about Palestine issue.  He agreed with the view of Acting Chairman Senate for enhanced linkages to further deepen bilateral cooperation.  He said that Muslims in Palestine and occupied Kashmir are facing many challenges and the Muslim world needs to make joint efforts for peace and stability of those regions.  He also thanked the Parliament, Government and people of Pakistan for continued support to the Palestinian cause.

Acting Chairman Senate expressed well wishes to the Government and people of Pakistan and assured support to better highlight Palestine issue globally.
