Leader of the House in the Senate Senator Shibli Faraz has, in a meeting with Ms. Meenakshi Dhar, Project Consultant, CPA Benchmarks Programme, here at the Parliament House on Wednesday, said that Committees are the lynchpin of the Parliament and in order to take a holistic view of the issues facing us there is a need to go beyond the role of engaging with the government machinery. He said that consultations with stakeholders other than bureaucracy lead to meaningful participation of experts as well as general public in the legislative process.
Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) delegation is visiting the Parliament and engaging with the members as well as Secretariat as part of in country assessment against the updated CPA benchmarks for the democratic legislatures.
Senator Shibli Faraz observed that the Senate of Pakistan has underwent many structural changes which are aimed at carrying out the Parliamentary processes according to the ground realities of the country, public demands and from the perspective of having worthwhile impact of the work being done.
Later in the day the CPA delegate held interactive sessions with officers of the Senate secretariat from different departments.
