Dr. Syed Pervaiz Abbas is an officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS/BS-22) presently serving as the Secretary, Senate of Pakistan. Being the functional head of the Senate Secretariat, all administrative and legislative functions along with liaison and coordination with International Parliamentary Institutions/Assemblies and International Development Partners such as the UNDP, European Union, and Hans Seidel Foundation constitute his core responsibilities.

He has over 30 years of experience in the public service, having previously served at important Government assignments, including Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Economic Affairs Division. His experience includes project management, social development, public policy formulation and execution, inter-parliamentary relations, and parliamentary diplomacy. He has worked extensively with multilateral and bilateral development partners and has held administrative posts in all provinces of Pakistan, Including Gilgit-Baltistan.

Dr. Syed Pervaiz Abbas has an MD Degree from Lviv Medical University, Ukraine USSR and a Masters Degree from University of the Punjab Lahore. He has attended courses at the Civil Services Academy and the National School of Public Policy, Government of Pakistan, Lahore, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA John Hopkins University, USA and Wollongong University, New South Wales, Australia. He has remained the Chairman of Punjab Power Development Board, and an alternate Governor on the boards of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank.
