Senate Sub-committee on National Heritage & Culture emphasizing Quaid's Mausoleum accessible to general public The Senate Sub-Committee on National Heritage and Culture has expressed concerns over restrictions on public access to the Quaid’s mausoleum, observing that such limitations disconnect the youth from their national roots and cultural identity. The committee stressed that security of the general public should be ensured and urged all the stakeholders to make the mausoleum fully accessible in this regard. The meeting was chaired by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi. Committee members Senator Bushra Anjum Butt and Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan attended in person, while Senator Sarmad Ali participated via video link. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, representatives of KMC and KDA, and the Additional Inspector General of Police, among other officials. While reviewing administrative, technical, and management issues concerning Mazar-e-Quaid, the chairman Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi stressed the need for stronger coordination among all concerned departments and institutions to improve public facilities and ensure effective management of the mausoleum. He emphasized that public access to Mazar-e-Quaid should be facilitated and encouraged, adding that educational visits, public libraries, and school activities around the premises would promote civic engagement and strengthen the younger generation's connection with the nation's history and heritage. Members of the committee collectively suggested that the impression of preferential access for VIPs among ordinary citizens must be dispelled by providing access to the masses at large. Furthermore, they also stressed on enhancing efficiency at the mausoleum with respect to water and electricity supply, and the installation of surveillance cameras. The committee underscored the need for a comprehensive and long-term reform policy instead of temporary or one-time measures, urging the relevant authorities to adopt a coordinated and sustainable approach for the preservation, security, and efficient management of Mazar-e-Quaid. The Committee also participated in a special anti-polio campaign held at Commissioner House, reaffirming the government's commitment to eradicate polio-virus from Pakistan
