The Sub-Committee of Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety,Convened by Senator Rubina Qaim Khani,held today at Parliament House to examine the appointments/promotions and other financial irregularities of Pakistan Bait ul Mal. The Sub-Committee,while expressing serious reservations on the information provided by the Pakistan Bait ul Mal, stated that the given information didn’t address the concerns highlighted by the Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committee also called for the presence of MD Pakistan Bait ul Mal and Secretary Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety in the forthcoming meeting to address the queries. Senator Rubina Qaim Khani highlighted that 129 undeserving employees of various grades were promoted without sanction, and when asked, a misleading number of 29 employees promotions was provided before the committee. Senator Jan Muhammad pointed out the vacant positions of Baluchistan and Sindh Provinces in Pakistan Bait ul Mal. He stated that only 114 seats have been filled against the 460 seats of Baluchistan, and same is the case with the Sindh Province, where only 151 seats were filled against the 434 sanctioned seats. Reflecting on amenities of Personal staff Officer (PSO) of MD Bait ul Mal, Senator Rubina Qaim Khani reiterated that a facility of car with unlimited fuel been given to PSO. She further that Pakistan Bait ul Mal should bring financial discipline to their spending as the institution has a responsibility to extending helping hands to vulnerable families. Highlighting financial irregularities in procurement of sewing machines and wheel chairs in Baluchistan province, as reported by the Dawn news and other leading newspapers, Officials of Pakistan Bait ul Mal informed that a committee is constituted to investigate the matter and report will be submitted before the committee once concluded.It is a shame that the money intended to make families independent and support disabled families could not see the light of day.The Sub-Committee directed the Pakistan Bait ul Mal to provide details of procurement being made in all other provinces. The Sub-Committee also directed to provide all the information addressing questions raised by the Sub-Committee in two weeks. In attendance were Senators Jan Muhammad,Dost Ali Jeesar and other Senior officials of Pakistan Bait ul Mal.
