Press Release Title: Senator Rubina Qaim Khani, Convener Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety presiding over a meeting of the sub-committee at Parliament House Islamabad.
Press Release Date: 16th April, 2026
The Senate Sub-Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety met today to conduct a comprehensive scrutiny of administrative and policy matters within Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM). The Sub-committee was chaired by *Senator Rubina Qaimkhani and attended by Senator Jan Muhammad and Senator Dost Ali Jeesar. The Committee expressed strong displeasure over the absence of the concerned Minister and Secretary, noting that their non-appearance hinders the oversight of vital social safety programs. A significant portion of the meeting focused on governance and transparency. The Committee was informed that an investigation into "fake degree cases" is currently underway, with a formal inquiry initiated against three officers. Members emphasized that departmental integrity must be maintained through strict verification processes. Furthermore, the Sub-Committee voiced deep concern regarding "unnecessary delays" in procurement and aid distribution. Officials reported that an inquiry into the provision of wheelchairs and sewing machines has been completed and submitted to the Managing Director’s (MD) office for final approval. The Committee stressed that such delays directly impact the welfare of the underprivileged. In response to these administrative lapses, and upon the request of the Additional Secretary, Committee members have moved to hold a *Privilege Motion* against the concerned Secretary and the Managing Director (MD). The Chair has directed officials to produce a final, detailed report on these matters. The remaining agenda items have been postponed to the next meeting to ensure a thorough and accountability-driven review.
