A meeting of the Board of Governors ( BOG) of the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) was held at its headquarters in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.

Chairman, Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, as the President of the Institute for Parliamentary Services and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri as the Vice President, had a farewell meeting today. The Chairman Senate and Deputy Speaker National Assembly have completed their term as President and Vice President, after which Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi will assume the chair of President and Vice President of the BOG, respectively.

In the farewell meeting of the Board of Governors, the members paid rich tribute to Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani as the President Board of Governors PIPS and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri as Vice President. The members said that the Chairman Senate, as the President, took the institution's affairs forward in a transparent manner and introduced the institution at the national and international level, and training workshops were continued despite the Corona Pandemic. President Board of Governors Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani thanked all the members. “PIPS is a vital institution. We tried to run the affairs of this prestigious institution efficiently. It helped in enhancing coordination between the provinces and the federation”, he remarked. He underlined that steps were taken to assist the Members of the Parliament in getting acquainted with the rules and regulations. Training and awareness courses on Parliamentary Affairs were also introduced for International Parliamentarians in Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services, he added. In this regard, the Parliaments of many countries have also expressed interest in Parliamentary Training. The Chairman Senate apprised that steps had been taken to enhance the capacity of Parliamentarians and employees of relevant institutions and train government officials in parliamentary matters. Sanjrani asserted that standard research should be used for better and concrete legislation.

While highlighting the importance of institutional support and coordination, the Chairman Senate said that Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services should promote institutional cooperation and liaison with universities, social organisations and other relevant institutions and conduct seminars, workshops and training courses in this regard.

 

PIPS Vice President Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri said that the responsibilities of Parliament had been further enhanced, keeping in view the requirements of modern times. In this regard, capacity building of the employees of the Parliament and related institutions is a matter of urgency. The participants hailed the services rendered by the outgoing President and Vice President PIPS. They said that liturgies of both have been instrumental in building the capacity of MPs and experts and officers in the parliamentary sector, nationally and internationally.

In the meeting, the members lauded the steps taken by the Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, for making the institution more efficient.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Khan, Senators Dilawar Khan, Kauda Babar, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, MNAs Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Shahida Akhtar Ali and Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Rehana Leghari ,Secretary Senate Muhammad Qasim Samad Khan and Executive Director PIPS Muhammad Anwar attended the meeting.

PIPS Executive Director Muhammad Anwar said that Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani as the President of Parliamentary Services and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri as the Vice President (PIPS) has been instrumental in making the organisation effective and worthwhile.

Approving the amendment in the rules and regulations related to the appointments in the institution, it was decided that the quota prescribed under the constitution for the appointment in the institution will be implemented. The meeting also reviewed the administrative and other matters of the institution. It was also decided to send government employees from other departments back to their parent unit.
