Event Title: Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, Presiding over a Meeting of The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges at Parliament Lodges Islamabad

The Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, chaired by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan,convened today at Parliament lodges to discuss the misleading and biased article published in Daily Dawn. The article “The Stealth Cost of Legislature” was dictated by the then Vice Chancellor of PIDE Nadeem ul Haque.

Senator Saadia Abbasi,mover of the privilege, remarked that the former Vice Chancellor has portrayed distorted facts in the article in order to create hatred among the public against the Parliamentarians. Despite providing evidence for claims, Nadeem ul Haque misbehaved with the committee members in the previous meeting and made derogatory remarks against the Government policies, She informed. Senator Saadia Abbasi stated that the individual using abusive language against the Parliamentarians is himself convicted of “Harrasment at Workplace” by the Federal Ombudsman. “Criticism of individuals drawing hefty salary from the Government account is not justifiable under any circumstances”, she asserted.

While arguing on the article,Senator Tallal Chaudhary claimed that the Parliamentarians of Pakistan are among the lowest paid Parliamentarians in the Asia.

Acting Vice Chancellor PIDE apprised the committee that the PIDE has taken action against the Former Vice Chancellor and has issued show cause notice following the procedure.

After a detailed deliberation, the Committee directed the PIDE to provide details of procedure followed for the selection of former Vice Chancellor PIDE along with details of work done in his tenure.

Furthermore, the Committee discussed on the privilege moved by Senator Tallal Chaudhary against the Ms. Nadia Saqib,Secretary Primary Health,Government of Punjab. Senator Tallal Chaudhary stated that the Secretary Primary Health hadn’t responded to her calls for  last four months despite having prior working relation. Senator Dost Ali Jeesar remarked that if the Parliamentarian could not reach out to Secretary in four months then one can imagine the plight of the common man. Ms. Nadia Saqib claimed that she didn’t receive a call from the worthy Senator and has also lost previous record due to repetitive wrong passcodes. However, she apologized for her unprofessional behavior. The Committee disposed of the matter by accepting the apology of the Secretary.
 

In attendance were Senators Saadia Abbasi,Dost Ali Jeesar,Tallal Chaudhary,Prof. Sajid Mir,Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Humaira Ahmed and other senior officials from relevant Departments.
