Event Title: Parliamentary Delegation from Pakistan participating in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians being held in Mexico.

Senator Nasima Ehsan and Senator Zamir Ghumro representing Pakistan at IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians being held in Mexico has said that gender equality is a shared objective of both Pakistan and Mexico and Pakistan's constitution protects and promotes women rights. It is a Constitutional obligation to provide women with equal rights.

Senator Ghumro observed that it is time to take affirmative actions in order to bring parity and gender equality.

In her address, Senator Naseema Ehsan termed it and honour to address the gathering. She said that gender equality is important for growth and prosperity of any nation.

She said that Pakistan has made huge progress in mainstreaming women role in politics. Our Constitution gives equal rights to women.  She said that reserved seats in National Assembly and provincial assemblies is step in the right direction enabling women to play active role in legislation and policy making. She also mentioned that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was the first female Prime Minister of the Muslim world. Currently, she said, Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz, CM Punjab is leading a province. These, she said, are the leading examples of women leadership.

She also highlighted various challenges being faced by the women. She said that steps have been taken in Pakistan to overcome all those challenges. She briefed the audience about the steps taken by the Pakistani government to promote gender equality at different levels.

Participants from different countries acknowledged the contribution of Pakistani delegation and lauded the steps taken by Pakistan to promote gender equality.
