Deputy Chairman Senate, Syedaal Khan, representing Pakistan in a video message at the SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and the 9th Silk Road International Expo remarked that both platforms reflect our shared commitment to connectivity, development, and prosperity.
He extended appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the leadership of Shaanxi Province for hosting these significant events in the historic city of Xi’an — a symbol of friendship and cooperation among regions connected by the ancient Silk Road.
Praising President Xi Jinpings Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), he noted that the grand legacy of the Silk Road lives on through this visionary undertaking. Pakistan, he said, is proud to be one of BRI’s pioneering and active partners, especially through the transformative China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is changing lives by investing in infrastructure, energy, technology, and regional integration.
The Deputy Chairman emphasized that the partnership has now entered a new and crucial phase, focusing on human development, knowledge, innovation, and sustainability. He underlined that forums like the SCO highlight the urgent need to address poverty, build strong health systems, and expand social protection, particularly in the context of climate change and post-pandemic recovery. He also lauded China’s remarkable achievements in poverty alleviation, calling them a model for developing countries.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he pointed out key national initiatives such as the Benazir Income Support Program, youth empowerment schemes, and universal health coverage, all aimed at inclusive growth and poverty eradication.
Highlighting agriculture as a pivotal sector for mutual cooperation, he said it not only ensures food security but also plays a vital role in rural employment. He welcomed future joint ventures under CPEC and SRIE in areas such as smart agriculture, modern irrigation technologies, seed development, and agricultural processing.
He appreciated China’s efforts in training 1,000 Pakistani agricultural professionals, noting that the first batch of 300 experts is already in China. Pakistan, he said, is eager to deepen collaboration with China to modernize its agricultural sector.
The Deputy Chairman also strongly supported enhanced cultural and educational exchanges, business-to-business partnerships, and increased investment in Special Economic Zones, stating that such collaboration will open new pathways for shared development.
In his concluding remarks, he said, “Let us continue building corridors of peace, prosperity, and inclusive development. Under the banner of regional solidarity and mutual respect, let us move forward together toward a better and shared future where progress is a collective legacy.”
Long Live Pakistan-China Friendship! Long Live Regional Cooperation!
