Event Title: Financial Advisor to Chairman Hosts Introductory Meeting with Pakistan Bankers Association.

Event Date: 2025-09-18

The Senate Secretariat convened an introductory meeting with Mr. Mir Nejib ur Rehman, Chief Operating Officer of the Pakistan Bankers Association (PBA), aimed at building a structured engagement platform between the financial industry and Parliament. The meeting was hosted by Mr. Aizaz Khan, Financial Advisor to the Chairman Senate, and Ms. Iffat Mustafa, Director General Research & Coordination, Senate of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Bankers Association (PBA), representing 48 leading financial institutions — including commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), digital banks, and electronic money institutions (EMIs) — plays a critical role in advancing the interests of Pakistan’s financial sector and ensuring alignment with global best practices.

Discussions during the meeting revolved around creating a legislative and consultative platform where the banking sector’s technical input can be systematically integrated into parliamentary proceedings. The goal is to ensure that both newly introduced and existing bills/acts in the financial domain are inclusive, practical, and data-driven, reflecting the perspectives of key industry stakeholders.

It was agreed that phased interactions will be held in the coming months, in which Senators will be provided with sector-specific advice and analytical data to support informed decision-making on legislative amendments. These structured engagements will enhance dialogue, strengthen oversight, and encourage collaborative policymaking between lawmakers and financial institutions.

This forward-looking initiative has been undertaken by the Advisor under the vision of Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, reflecting the Senate’s commitment to inclusive governance, transparency, and evidence-based legislation in Pakistan’s financial sector with the objective of mainstreaming stakeholder consultations in the law-making process.
