A high-level parliamentary delegation from the Senate of Pakistan successfully concluded its official visit to Kigali, Rwanda, from October 13 to 15, 2025, marking a significant step forward in the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.
The delegation, led by Senator Kamran Murtaza, Convener of the Pakistan-Rwanda Friendship Group in the Senate, included Senator Bushra Anjum Butt and Senator Jan Muhammad. During the visit, the delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions aimed at enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, economic cooperation, and mutual development initiatives.
Hosted by their Rwandan counterparts, the delegation held productive meetings with members of the Rwandan Parliament and senior officials to explore deeper collaboration across key sectors including trade, education, technology, agriculture, and parliamentary exchange.
The visit also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to its “Engage Africa” policy and reaffirmed the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation as a powerful channel to foster people-to-people ties, policy exchange, and development partnerships.
The Senators acknowledged Rwanda’s inspiring journey of recovery, unity, and nation-building, expressing admiration for the resilience and leadership of the Rwandan people.
Senator Kamran Murtaza remarked, “This visit is a testament to the growing friendship between Pakistan and Rwanda. We are confident that our countries, though geographically distant, are deeply connected by shared aspirations for peace, progress, and prosperity.”
The delegation’s visit builds on recent momentum in bilateral relations, including the establishment of High Commissions in both countries, ministerial visits, and the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering diplomatic training, trade facilitation, and political consultations.
The Senate delegation’s visit has opened new avenues for cooperation—particularly in digital innovation, education exchange programs, trade in agricultural goods and pharmaceuticals, and sports collaboration, with soccer emerging as a potential connector between youth in both countries.
Pakistan looks forward to hosting future parliamentary exchanges, building on the foundations laid by this historic visit, and taking forward the shared vision of South–South cooperation and development.
