Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, in his message on International Mountain Day, said that mountain ranges are the foundation of a country’s survival, environmental security, water conservation, economy, and agricultural system.
He said that Pakistan’s magnificent mountain ranges Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush are the pride of our natural heritage, guarantors of ecological balance, and the key protectors of water resources through their ancient glaciers. Expressing deep concern over the rapid melting of glaciers, glacial lake outburst floods, and the increasing impacts of climate change, he emphasized that a comprehensive strategy is urgently needed to confront these challenges.
The Chairman Senate highlighted the pivotal role of youth in the struggle to protect the environment, stating that providing a safe, healthy, and sustainable future for coming generations is a shared responsibility of all.
