Event Title: Participants of 45th Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC) are being briefed by Secretary Senate, Syed Husnain Haider about working of Senate Of Pakistan at Parliament House, Islamabad.

A 13-member delegation of the 45th Mid-Career Management Course visited the Parliament House on Wednesday as part of an official study tour aimed at enhancing understanding of Pakistan’s parliamentary system. Senior officers of the Senate Secretariat warmly received the delegation.

Secretary Senate, Syed Hasnain Haider, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the constitutional role, functions, powers, and procedures of the Senate of Pakistan. He highlighted the Senate’s pivotal position as custodian of rights and guarantor of equal representation of all federating units, underscoring its vital role in promoting national harmony and safeguarding the rights and interests of smaller provinces.

While tracing the historical evolution of the Upper House, the Secretary Senate informed the participants that the first session of the Senate was held on 6th August 1973 with 45 members, following its establishment to ensure equal provincial representation. He also apprised the delegation of the functioning of Senate Standing Committees, parliamentary oversight mechanisms, and the Senate’s growing role in parliamentary diplomacy, including international conferences hosted by the Senate and bilateral visits by its members.

Syed Hasnain Haider further elaborated that the Senate performs key democratic functions encompassing legislation, oversight, accountability, and public representation, and plays a crucial role in policy formulation and strengthening democratic governance in the country.

The briefing was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which the delegation demonstrated keen interest and actively engaged with the Secretary Senate, who responded comprehensively to the queries raised.

Subsequently, the delegation was taken on a guided tour of the Senate Museum, where participants were briefed on Pakistan’s parliamentary system, the legislative process, and the constitutional role of the Senate. A documentary showcasing the history of the Upper House was screened, while the delegation expressed particular interest in the statues of eminent national figures and historical photographs on display.

The visit also included a tour of the Senate Hall, where the delegation was briefed on parliamentary traditions, procedures, and key stages of legislative business, followed by a walk through Gali-e-Dastoor, providing further insights into Pakistan’s parliamentary heritage.

At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation appreciated the Senate Secretariat’s significant role in promoting democratic values, institutional transparency, and strengthening the parliamentary system. The participants termed the visit highly informative and enriching, and expressed gratitude to the Senate Secretariat for its hospitality, cooperation, and guidance.
