Event Date: 2025-12-17

Acting Chairman Senate, Syedal Khan, in his message on the occasion of National Farmers’ Day, said that farmers are the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and play a vital role in ensuring national food security, agricultural self-sufficiency and rural development. He emphasized that without the hard work and dedication of farmers, sustainable economic growth and social stability cannot be achieved.

Syedal Khan stated that Pakistan is an agrarian country where millions of families depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Farmers, he said, contribute significantly to economic stability, export growth and the creation of employment opportunities in rural areas. He added that Pakistani agricultural produce is recognized globally for its quality, reflecting the resilience and commitment of the country’s farming community despite limited resources.

The Acting Chairman stressed the need to prioritize farmers’ welfare by providing modern agricultural facilities, quality seeds, timely availability of fertilizers, fair water distribution, affordable credit, crop insurance, effective extension services and access to research and innovation. He noted that such measures are essential to reduce production costs, enhance productivity and improve farmers’ incomes.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the farming community, Syedal Khan said that climate change, unpredictable weather patterns, floods, droughts and rising input costs have posed serious threats to agricultural sustainability. He called for comprehensive, farmer-friendly and climate-resilient policies to address these issues effectively.

He further stated that Parliament is playing an active role through legislation, oversight and policy initiatives aimed at resolving farmers’ problems, strengthening the agricultural sector, improving market access and reinforcing the agricultural value chain. Reaffirming his commitment, he said that every possible effort would continue to protect farmers’ rights and promote sustainable rural prosperity.

The Acting Chairman Senate concluded by saying that farmers’ prosperity is synonymous with national prosperity, and empowering farmers is the key to building a strong, self-reliant and prosperous Pakistan.
