Chairman Senate of Pakistan, His Excellency Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, met with His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, on 8th December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual warmth and reinforced the longstanding bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia.
Chairman Gilani conveyed his deep appreciation for the continued engagement between the Parliaments of both countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and parliamentary spheres.
He noted that Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy historically close and cordial relations, rooted in shared values, cultural affinity, and mutual respect. The Chairman emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to its partnership with Malaysia and is dedicated to deepening collaboration at all levels.
Enhancing Parliamentary Cooperation
Chairman Gilani highlighted the strong democratic traditions shared by both nations, reflected in the vibrancy of their parliamentary institutions. He appreciated the establishment of Parliamentary Friendship Groups in both Houses of the Parliament of Pakistan and welcomed similar initiatives by the Malaysian side, which would provide a structured platform for sustained parliamentary exchanges.
He underscored that high-level parliamentary visits and continued dialogue play a vital role in enhancing mutual understanding and advancing bilateral relations. Pakistan also acknowledged the support of Malaysian Parliamentarians on various initiatives of shared interest.
Chairman Gilani expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government for its generous assistance during Pakistan’s flood relief efforts, reflecting the humanitarian solidarity that characterizes bilateral ties.
Political and Strategic Engagement
Both sides discussed the evolving regional and global geopolitical landscape. Chairman Gilani emphasized that close cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia is essential for promoting peace, stability, and economic development in their respective regions.
He noted that the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Malaysia and last year’s visit of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Pakistan underscore the deep-rooted and enduring friendship between the two nations. Such high-level engagements continue to generate momentum in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Support for ASEAN Partnership
Chairman Gilani congratulated Malaysia on its effective Chairmanship of ASEAN and on the successful hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit in October. He commended Malaysia’s leadership in promoting regional dialogue and cooperation.
He expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for Malaysia’s continued support for Pakistan’s aspiration to obtain Full Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN—an important step toward enhanced regional integration.
Economic and Trade Relations
Chairman Gilani lauded Malaysia’s ongoing investments in Pakistan and highlighted the successful Pakistan–Malaysia Business and Investment Conference held in Kuala Lumpur on 6th October. He informed the Speaker that Pakistan has introduced special incentives under Special Economic Zones and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to attract further Malaysian investment.
He also noted Pakistan’s willingness to support Malaysia’s skilled workforce requirements, as Pakistani workers are known for their hard work, professionalism, and reliability.
Situation in Gaza
Chairman Gilani praised Malaysia’s principled and consistent advocacy for the rights of the Palestinian people, describing Malaysia’s leadership on the issue as exemplary and deeply respected in the Muslim world.
Regional Issues – Afghanistan
Chairman Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan. However, he expressed concern over the continued presence of terrorist outfits such as TTP/FAK and BLA/FAH operating from Afghan soil with impunity.
He stressed that normal relations with Afghanistan are contingent upon effective, verifiable actions by Afghan authorities against these groups, which pose a direct threat to Pakistan’s security.
India and IIOJK
Chairman Gilani expressed grave concern over the escalating aggressive rhetoric and actions by India, which threaten regional peace and stability. He highlighted the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), where demographic engineering and systematic violations continue in contravention of international law.
He noted India’s unilateral move to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance—an action without legal basis—and called on India to fully comply with its international obligations.
Referring to India’s unprovoked aggression on the night of 6–7 May 2025, Chairman Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, exercised through Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos. He emphasized that while Pakistan remains firmly committed to safeguarding its sovereignty, it continues to advocate dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
