Misbah Khar Addresses Official Signing Ceremony of Sindh Sustainable School Meals Initiative in Karachi

Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador ISC, addressed the official signing ceremony of the Sindh Sustainable School Meals initiative, describing it as a landmark step reflecting institutional resolve and a deeply rooted national commitment to the welfare of children and the future of Pakistan.

Speaking on behalf of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Ms. Khar extended heartfelt commendations to all agencies, departments, and stakeholders whose collective efforts made the initiative possible. She particularly acknowledged the generous funding support of USD 80 million provided under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, describing it as a significant contribution toward strengthening Pakistan’s education and nutrition landscape. The event was largely attended by people different walks of life specially US Embassy Counsel General, senior officials and diplomatic staff of the embassy besides Provincial agriculture minister of Sindh province and other representatives of the department.

Ms. Khar highlighted that the Chairman Senate played a pivotal role in facilitating this funding and extending these resources to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, recognizing his longstanding commitment to social protection, human development, and inclusive growth.

She emphasized that the initiative was rooted in shared values and a unified vision for uplifting vulnerable communities. The Chairman Senate’s belief in investing in education and nutrition as a foundation for national strength closely aligned with Chairman Bilawal’s dedication to expanding social safety nets and ensuring equitable development. Both leaders shared a clear understanding that such resources must deliver tangible impact for children facing food insecurity and educational disadvantage.

“The Chairman Senate firmly believes that development is most meaningful when it reaches those who need it most,” Ms. Khar stated. “A nation cannot aspire to progress if its children are left behind.”

The Sindh Sustainable School Meals Project, she noted, goes beyond the provision of meals. It is designed to restore dignity, improve learning outcomes, increase school attendance, and provide children with the nourishment required to realize their full potential. By addressing food insecurity within schools, the initiative aims to break cycles of poverty and create pathways toward opportunity.

Ms. Khar underscored that programmes of this nature represent a national cause that transcends political affiliations and institutional boundaries. “It is about Pakistan’s future,” she said. “It is about ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has a fair chance to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

In her concluding remarks, she reaffirmed the Chairman Senate’s steadfast belief that the true measure of progress lies in the well-being of the people — especially children. She expressed confidence that through shared vision and collective action, Pakistan can build a stronger and more equitable future.
