Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan held separate meetings at Parliament House Islamabad with various prominent personalities, government officials, representatives of educational institutions, social and media figures, and delegations. The meetings focused on key national issues including institutional reforms, promotion of higher education, cultural harmony, austerity measures, and the overall political and social situation of the country.
Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and Managing Director Pakistan Television, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil, called on the Deputy Chairman Senate. During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the performance of national broadcasting institutions, ongoing reforms, and measures aimed at aligning these institutions with modern requirements.
Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan appreciated the role of Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan, stating that both national institutions play a vital role in public awareness, education, and the promotion of national consciousness. He said that PTV has consistently contributed to national unity, cultural harmony, and the promotion of a positive national image, while continuing to serve as an effective medium of information, education, and entertainment across the country, including remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil briefed the Deputy Chairman Senate on ongoing institutional reforms, expansion of digital platforms, and initiatives being undertaken through PTV World to project Pakistan’s positive image globally. The Deputy Chairman Senate expressed satisfaction over PTV’s current performance and noted that national institutions are playing an important role in promoting Pakistan’s regional languages, cultures, and traditions.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission also met with the Deputy Chairman Senate. The meeting included detailed discussions on the promotion of higher education in Balochistan, establishment of new universities, provision of educational facilities, promotion of research, and improvement of digital systems.
Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan stated that providing quality and modern educational opportunities to the youth of Balochistan is essential for national development and sustainable stability. He emphasized that alongside establishing new universities, existing educational institutions should also be strengthened through modern research facilities, improved infrastructure, digital resources, and enhanced teaching tools to ensure education in line with international standards.
The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission briefed the Deputy Chairman Senate on ongoing initiatives for improving higher education in Balochistan enhancing the capacity of universities, and the online degree verification system. The Deputy Chairman Senate appreciated the efforts of HEC and stressed the need for more effective measures to promote higher education across the country.
In a separate meeting, a delegation led by former Federal Minister Ghalib Khan and former Deputy Attorney General Farooq Khan Nasir also met the Deputy Chairman Senate. The discussion focused on national affairs, public welfare, the economic situation, and various proposals regarding government policies.
Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan appreciated the federal government’s austerity campaign and stated that, given the current economic and regional circumstances, financial prudence has become the need of the hour. He added that the Senate of Pakistan, as a symbol of the federation, fully supports fiscal discipline and the government’s savings programme.
Renowned artist Wasil Shahid also met the Deputy Chairman Senate and discussed his artwork and creative projects. On the occasion, the Deputy Chairman Senate appreciated the role of art and artists, stating that fine arts play a significant role in promoting the country’s civilizational identity, cultural heritage, and positive social values.
He remarked that painting and other forms of creative expression not only reflect Pakistan’s cultural beauty but also serve as an effective medium for promoting peace, tolerance, and national harmony. The Deputy Chairman Senate accepted the invitation to attend an art exhibition scheduled for August and expressed his best wishes for the event.
