Welfare of Senate Employees Remains a Top Priority: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani

Islamabad: Chairman Senate Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani chaired an important meeting of the Executive Committee for the Employees Welfare Fund of the Upper House at Parliament House.

During the meeting, Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider informed that the fund operates entirely through voluntary contributions from Senate Members and Senate employees, with the objective of providing immediate financial support to employees in Grades 1 to 15 in cases of marriage, bereavement, and other emergency situations.

On this occasion, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani directed that the Welfare Fund be further strengthened, expanded, and made more effective. He instructed that voluntary contribution forms be circulated again among all Members so that those willing to participate in this welfare initiative may contribute according to their convenience.

Chairman Senate observed that with the passage of time, salaries of Members and Senate employees have increased, therefore the Fund’s financial structure and operational mechanism should be reviewed to ensure that a greater number of employees benefit from it.

Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider also briefed the committee on the Welfare Fund policy framework and financial assistance mechanism.

Chairman Senate further proposed consultation with insurance companies to explore sustainable and effective welfare models aimed at strengthening employee welfare arrangements.

To formulate recommendations for improving the welfare system, a sub-committee comprising Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt, and Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti was constituted. The sub-committee will submit its recommendations to the main committee.

During the meeting, Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti proposed that Senate employees should also be provided opportunities to perform Hajj, similar to employees of other public institutions. He announced personal financial support for sending two employees for Hajj and further pledged to contribute PKR 100,000 monthly from his salary to the Welfare Fund.
