Chairman Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, leading a parliamentary delegation of Pakistan on an official visit to Belarus, laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk, paying tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the defence of peace and freedom.
The wreath-laying ceremony marked the beginning of the official programme of the Pakistani parliamentary delegation’s visit and carried deep historical and symbolic significance. The ceremony reflected the importance attached by both countries to the preservation of historical memory, respect for the sacrifices of past generations and the shared values of peace, sovereignty and human dignity. The solemn ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs and National Security Sergey Aleinik, along with representatives of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Minsk City Council of Deputies.
Earlier, the parliamentary delegation of Pakistan, led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, arrived in Minsk for an official two-day visit to Belarus. At Minsk National Airport, the delegation was received by Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Igor Brilevich and Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security Sergey Aleinik. The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Kochanova and is aimed at providing fresh momentum to parliamentary and bilateral relations between Belarus and Pakistan.
During the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the trade, economic and humanitarian sectors. Parliamentary engagement will also focus on enhancing institutional cooperation and promoting greater interaction between the two countries. A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Memorandum on Cooperation between the Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Senate of Pakistan. The agreement is expected to provide an institutional framework for strengthening parliamentary exchanges, sharing legislative experiences and developing closer cooperation between the two parliamentary institutions.
The Pakistani delegation is also scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Belarusian government officials to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest. The programme further includes a visit to the Minsk Tractor Plant, a flagship of Belarusian machine-building industry, as well as leading medical scientific and practical centres of the country.
Speaking on the significance of the wreath-laying ceremony, the importance of historical memory and respect for the sacrifices of those who defended peace and freedom was underscored. Careful preservation of historical memory and adherence to shared values provide a strong moral foundation for sincere dialogue, mutual respect and long-term partnership between Belarus and Pakistan. The official visit reflects the growing parliamentary engagement between Pakistan and Belarus and provides an opportunity to explore new avenues of cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, technological and institutional fields. Both sides are expected to build on existing ties and identify practical measures for further strengthening relations between the two countries.
