Chairman Senate stresses equal opportunities, education for girls for Pakistan’s progress
Karachi: Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani has called for greater investment in the education and empowerment of girls, saying Pakistan’s progress depends on ensuring that they have equal opportunities to build their futures.
Addressing the inauguration of a new orphanage established by the Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust, Gilani said girls could play leading roles in fields ranging from medicine, engineering and teaching to science, law and business. “If we want to raise a strong and capable society, we must provide every girl with equal opportunities to move forward,” he said, stressing that the education and dignified inclusion of girls is essential to Pakistan’s progress.
Yousuf Raza Gillani said the new building, Al-Mustafa My Home, represented more than bricks, walls and rooms, describing it as a foundation for hope, protection, education and a better future. He said orphaned girls needed more than sympathy, and should be given trust, attention and opportunities to become independent. “Our goal should not simply be to keep our daughters safe, but to make them strong, empowered and independent,” he said.
The Senate chairman urged the management of the institution to give particular attention to quality education, modern facilities, healthcare, character building and moral development, alongside accommodation and other basic necessities. He said Islam placed particular emphasis on the care and rights of orphans, adding that providing them with education, proper upbringing and opportunities for a dignified life was a religious and social responsibility.
“Educating a girl is not merely educating an individual; it is shaping the future of an entire family and generations to come,” he said. Yousuf Raza Gillani described the inauguration as the beginning of a new journey of hope and expressed the wish that the institution would become a model centre for Karachi and Pakistan, where orphaned girls could receive love, respect and education and acquire the means to build independent lives.
He congratulated former federal minister and Patron-in-Chief of the Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust, Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, and Dr Abdul Rahim on the completion of the project.
He also paid tribute to individuals, social workers and volunteers who devote their time, resources and skills to humanitarian causes, saying their contributions deserved recognition and appreciation. “Every daughter of Pakistan represents our future, and safeguarding that future is the collective responsibility of us all,” he said.
