Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has paid tribute to the victims of the devastating October 8, 2005 earthquake on the 21st anniversary of the tragedy, expressing solidarity with the affected families.
In his message, the Chairman prayed for the elevation of the ranks of those who lost their lives in the earthquake and for patience and strength for the bereaved families. He also paid tribute to the Pakistan Army, rescue agencies, volunteers and relief workers for their invaluable services during the disaster.
Chairman Senate said that the experience of the 2005 earthquake had provided important lessons for strengthening preparedness and response to natural disasters. While natural disasters cannot be prevented, timely early warnings, effective institutional coordination, stronger emergency response and robust disaster management can significantly reduce loss of life and property.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized that national unity, mutual cooperation and a strong sense of collective responsibility must be upheld in every difficult hour.
