Participants of the 47th Mid-Career Management Course Visit Parliament House
A delegation of 30 civil servants of (BPS-18) participating in the 47th Mid-Career Management Course at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Peshawar, along with 3 course faculty members, visit to Parliament House, Islamabad. Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by officials of the Senate Secretariat.
Joint Secretary Senate Secretariat, Mughees Ahmad Sheikh, provided the delegation with a detailed briefing regarding the constitutional role, powers, procedures, administrative structure, and duties of the Upper House. He stated that the Senate guarantees equal representation to the units of the federation and plays a key role in promoting national solidarity as well as safeguarding the rights and interests of smaller provinces.
The Joint Secretary further briefed the delegation on the creation of the House to ensure equal representation for all provinces. He detailed the role and performance of Senate Standing Committees, the system of parliamentary oversight, and parliamentary diplomacy. He added that the Senate performs vital duties such as legislation, oversight, accountability, and public representation, playing a crucial role in strengthening the country's democratic system through effective participation in national policymaking. He also highlighted the historical evolution of the Upper House.
Participants showed keen interest during the briefing and actively engaged in a interactive Q&A session. Joint Secretary Senate Secretariat Mughees Ahmad Sheikh and Deputy Secretary Senate Secretariat Muhammad Azam provided comprehensive answers to all questions.
Later, the delegation visited the Senate Museum, where they were briefed on Pakistan's parliamentary system, legislative stages, and the constitutional role of the Senate. A documentary on the history of the Upper House was screened. The delegation showed special interest in the statues of prominent national figures and historical photographs on display. The delegation also visited the Gali-e-Dastoor (Constitution Street exhibit), where they received key information regarding Pakistan's constitutional and parliamentary history. The members also toured the Senate Hall.
At the conclusion of the visit, vote of thanks was presented on behalf of the Director General of NIPA, Peshawar expressing gratitude to the Senate Secretariat. As a gesture of goodwill, a souvenir was also presented to Joint Secretary Mr.Mughees Ahmad Sheikh.
The participants appreciated the Senate Secretariat's effective role in promoting democratic values, institutional transparency, and strengthening the parliamentary system. They declared the visit highly informative and useful, expressing gratitude to the Senate Secretariat for it's guidance and cooperation.
