A seasoned politician having more than thirty years standing in the. national politics Mr. Saifullah Khan Paracha was born at Makhad in District Attock on 17 July, 1931. He is an Aitchisonian and after having his senior Cambridge in 1949 ted for engineering education. He left for the United States and earned B.S. Engineering, Mechanical and Mining Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley California, USA in 1954.

He is a professional engineer, a businessman and an enlightened social worker. He is President of "Dar-ul-Falah, Quetta"-the only recognised orphanage in Balochistan. He is also the President of "Anjuman-e-Islamia, Quetta"-an NGO which is providing school eudcation to more than 8,000 students and college education to 553 girls on no profit no loss basis.

Mr. Paracha continues to be the President of the Pakistan Institution of Engineers Balochistan for the last eight years and is also on the Panel of Experts in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. He is a member of the Pakistan Chamber of Engineers and has been President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry in 1983-84.

His interest in the social welfare activities and aptitude for public life brought him into politics and it was in 1959 that he was elected a member of the Municipal Corporation Quetta. He was elected a member of the West Pakistan Assembly in 1965, a member of the Balochistan Assembly in 1970 and again in 1985.

During his long representative career he served as a Member of the Balochistan Provincial Cabinet with different portfolios for seven years from 1974 to 1988.

Mr. Saifullah Khan Paracha is a widely travelled person and has been to almost all parts of the globe, except Israel.

Mr. Saifullah Khan Paracha was elected as a Member of the Senate of Pakistan in 1977 and has again returned to the Senate in March 1994 for a six-year term against a technocrat seat from Balochistan.He is a Member of the Senate Standing Committees on Planning and Development, Finance and Economic Affairs and Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis. He is also a Member of the Finance Committee of the Senate.
