Senate held the fourth sitting of 276th Session of Senate House at 3 P.M. with Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair.
During the Question Hour, out of 11 questions listed on today’s agenda, 6 questions were discussed in the House and responded to by the Ministers In-Charge, while 4 were laid on table due to absence of mover. These questions pertained to the ministries of Finance, planning, industries and science and technology. Minister for Finance proposed preparing a charter of economy which shall come as a collective document from the Parliament, however, Leader of the Opposition observed that the proposal is ill-timed.
Two adjournment motions regarding a controversial letter of cabinet division regarding rollback of 18th Constitutional Amendment and recent atrocities being committed by Indian forces in Shopayan and Islamabad were declared inadmissible by the Chair after consideration.
Six government bills titled, Gas Infrastructure Development (Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Specific Relief (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Limitation Relating to Civil Revisions Bill, 2018, Federal Ombudsman Institutional Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Federal Judicial Academy (Amendment) Bill, 2018 were introduced and referred to standing committees concerned.
On a motion by Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition, members of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Standing Committee on Planning Development Reforms, and Standing Committee on Law and Justice were elected.
On behalf of the Minister of State for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Senator Mushahidullah Khan moved to lay copies of three money bills in the House. The members will now make recommendations to the Foreign Assets (Declaration and Repatriation) Ordinance, 2018, Voluntary Declaration of Domestic Assets Ordinance, 2018 and Income Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018.
The Senate will now meet on Friday, 13th April, 2018 at 10:30 A.M.
