A Special meeting of the Senate House Business Advisory Committee was held at Parliament House to discuss control of expenditures of the Senate. The meeting was presided over by the Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani. The committee which comprises of Leader of House in the Senate, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Chief Whip and Parliamentary Party Leaders of all political parties represented in the Senate, decided to limit and control expenditures in line with the already adopted austerity policy of the Senate Administration. But the committee was of the view that the trichotomy of power and autonomy as provided in the Constitution does not make the decision of the executive binding on other pillars of the State. The House Business Advisory Committee endorsed the position taken by the Finance Committee of the Senate, mandated under Article 88 of the Constitution regarding recent executive decisions and restrictions.
The Chairman Senate observed that the Senate Secretariat is already curtailing expenditures which can be limited without compromising the parliamentary functionality.
Congratulating the newly redesignated Secretary General of the Senate, the House Business Advisory Committee endorsed the decision of the Chairman Senate in view of the contributions and services of Amjed Pervez Malik in the parliamentary development and strengthening of parliamentary procedures at national and international level.
The meeting was attended by Leader of the House Senator Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq besides Senators Sherry Rehman, Mushahidullah Khan, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Anwar ul Haq Kakar and Azam Khan Swati. Secretary General Senate Amjed Pervez Mailk was also present in the meeting.
